Why Tree: The Why Tree is similar to the Five Whys, but takes it a step further and uses the advantage of a visual aid. This can be a great tool to use on a flip chart or whiteboard when you’re brainstorming with a team. Here’s how you create your own Why Tree:
State your situation (problem, issue, gap) as specifically as possible.
Ask why this is happening, why this is true, and/or why the situation exists (or what caused it to exist). You may have two or three (or more) reasons why you think this is happening, and the Why Tree allows you to explore each of them.
Continue asking why until you reach the root cause.
